Whatever Gets You Through the Workday

We’ve All Had Jobs We Hate

Sometimes we’ve been there too long, or perhaps the role doesn’t challenge us the way we want to be challenged. And, some of the time, we have legit reasons to stay in that job, whether we like it or not. After all, we Single women have goals to achieve, and a life to live.

If you’re in a role which is repetitive or mundane, but you’re there for bigger reasons, make it work for you!

  • Use computer time to listen to inspirational talks/ videos on YouTube, learn a language while you work. Plug in your headphones, and YouTube will play while you’re working on other things.
  • Music! It’s so simple, but so many people don’t do it. Plug in and tune out. Enjoy your time at work.
  • Set your own goals of your work, for example, to get a certain amount of work done before you go to morning tea, lunch, etc. Before you know it, you’ll be in control of that mundane chore.
  • Make friends with your colleagues. The worst jobs can become the best if you have great people around you.

Love the One You’re With

You’ve heard that song, right? Well, it’s the same with other areas of your life, like your job.

Make your job what you can. If you’re not working in the job you want to be in, get the most out of your current job.

  • Learn what you can from that role and the company
  • Accept courses the company offers you, and complete them to the best of your ability
  • Take on any responsibilities that will further yourself at that company, or which will look great on your CV

Remember, the company might have given you the opportunity because they need you to be more qualified, but YOU get to take that experience with you- to your new job!

Focus on What Matters

Boring jobs can be more than that if you’re doing it to pay for a hobby you love, or for your children to go to ballet classes or a better school. You might be stocking shelves in the wee small hours of the night, but if you’re doing it to pay for what’s important to you, then smile and keep stocking, my friend, because you are living the dream. This might not be the best job ever, but you are paving the way for glory, for yourself, or your child.

It’s Not What You Know, It’s Who You Know

Network. Network. Network. Even if you don’t know what you want to do when you grow up, it never hurts to make firm connections with people. Don’t ever discount someone because of their role. You never know which person you’re working with today will be tomorrow’s super star. Whether it’s them, or you, it’s essential to surround yourself with people who have dreams- even if those dreams aren’t publicised right now. These days you can throw a stone and find a rags to riches story; everyone started somewhere, and networking plays a huge hand in every one of those stories.  Have trouble talking to new people? Try this

Your homework (I wear glasses, so I can pass for a teacher!) is to think about what you want from life. What can you do to enjoy your current job more, and get more out of it?
